Najran Cowins has been an educator for 10 years, particularly in middle and secondary mathematics. Najran received a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in Psychology. In addition, she has received a master’s degree from New Jersey City University in Mathematics Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Thomas Edison State University. Prior to joining Merit Preparatory School, Najran worked at Newark Public Schools for seven years as a middle and high school math teacher. In addition, she returned to her home district to serve as a district math supervisor for K-6 in the West New York School District. During her tenure as a math supervisor, Najran was an integral part in coaching and supervising math teachers to implement best math practices to increase rigor and technology into the classroom. Najran has an expertise in K-12 math curriculum and instruction, as well as integrating technology to ensure student achievement and success in the 21st century.
